Description
Hadrian Boswell, the eccentric owner of an antebellum mansion in a small town in southwestern Louisiana, has a terrible fear of “first dark,” or dusk and the ghosts that haunt his antebellum home, The Oaks. He carries out nighttime pranks to assuage his fears. He is involved with his black male servant, King, and is alternately despised and respected by this servant. Because of Hadrian’s shenanigans, most townspeople shun him — so do famous artists and writers after they visit The Oaks. Waverly Bradford has been in love with Hadrian since their aborted affair, thirty years earlier, when they were art students in New Orleans. There they were secretly married but never consummated the marriage because Hadrian could not bring himself to make love to a woman. The marriage is annulled and Waverly, living on nearby Deer Island, plans to visit Hadrian now that he has returned to Comeaux to renovate his antebellum mansion. When Waverly makes the visit, Hadrian stages a prank that causes her to flee from the mansion. She vows to get revenge. King plots to get rid of Joseph Hollier, an art student of Hadrian’s who has moved in with Hadrian; Joseph plots to get rid of Hadrian. Voodoo houngans enter the scene and Hadrian stages a last prank, his mysterious death in a hospital after being pushed from a second-story gallery at The Oaks. With Waverly’s help, he resurrects for a surprise ending. Silence Never Betrays is also available in eBook format from Amazon for $2.99. Published 2011.
